Recently, it has become necessary to strengthen Debrecen economically and, based on this, to create a significant number of new jobs in order to maintain and increase the city’s ability to retain its population. Accordingly, after 2014, economic development became the main focus area in the city’s governance, and in order to successfully achieve this goal, the Municipality established EDC Debrecen in 2015. This company acts as a dedicated external organisation to professionally support and integrate the tasks related to urban development and economic development activities.

In recent years, Debrecen has attracted a record number of new investments, even by international standards, which has brought the city to an economic step change. This change of scale brings with it a number of new opportunities, but also challenges, and it is important to respond to these appropriately and quickly in order to balance the growth of the city from all points of view, as well as to maintain a balance between urban development and economic development trends. EDC’s professional team, supporting the development of the city along the necessary lines, is a guarantee that this rapid response will be possible and that Debrecen will be one of the European cities of success in the coming decades. We work hand in hand with the Municipality, our colleagues at the Hungarian Investment Promotion Agency (HIPA), local educational institutions, and business organisations.
